Weekly Update for November 11-15, 2013

6th Grade Science:
Monday: In groups of 4, make a two-dimensional model on paper of the Physical layers drawn to scale. As groups and then as a class, try to determine the scale. (Roughly, it should be: Lithosphere 1 cm, Asthenosphere 1 cm, Mesosphere 10 cm, Outer Core 9 cm, Inner Core 5 cm.)
Tuesday: Finish activity from Monday.
Wednesday: Make corrections to drawings.
Thursday: Vocabulary booklet for words covered to this point.
Friday: In groups read and complete directed reading for pages 104-107 (Restless Continents)

7th Grade Science:
Monday: Have students measure different volumes of both solids and liquids and then find their masses. Compute their densities and make comparisons. Students will need to develop a means of recording their data.
Tuesday: Assign Interactive Reading for pages 28-31, "Forming New Substances" from textbook: Interactions of Matter.  Have groups discuss similarities from yesterday's demonstration and the reading.
Wednesday: Demonstration: Chemical reaction in hood (Sulfuric Acid and Sugar Precipitate and volcanic eruption). In groups, have students identify evidence of chemical reactions.
Thursday: Power writing activity: The sulfuric acid and sugar reaction demonstrated a chemical change in two ways. The Ammonium Dichromate volcano demonstrated a chemical reaction in two ways.
Friday: Bill Nye video: Atoms. Also, assign physical changes worksheet as a review.
